Social media platforms particularly Facebook are important social platforms that are used in Somaliland. Most Somalilanders post in the Somali language. The community standard rules of Facebook do not detect violations even when it is reported because of the language barrier.
The failure of
Facebook gave extremists to publicly use the platform to promote violence, religious
extremism and antisemitism.
It is imperative for Facebook
to recognize this weakness and come up with strategies to tackle terrorism and extremism.
